The Dyngus Day Parade returns to Greenpoint for the FOURTH time. Dyngus Day, also known as Śmigus-Dyngus, is a traditional Polish holiday that takes place on the Monday after Easter and celebrates the end of Lent. It is most associated with pouring water using various sprays, e.g. in the shape of an egg representing "holy water" and with "Pussy Willows". It is celebrated all over the world, and although the largest parade in the world takes place in Buffalo, New York, in 2021, for the first time in the history of New York City, it took place in Greenpoint, the First Dyngus Day Parade in NYC. The honorary guest was Stan Borys, who, together with the organizers, the parish priest of St. Stanislaus Kostka, Grzegorz Markulak, the president of the Theatre and Opera Society "THEOS" Katarzyna Drucker, Martyna Sokół and David Alan Jaymes, cut the red ribbon.
Honorary guests in the following years included: Elżbieta Popławska and Marian Żak.
This year there will also be many attractions for children, water pouring, delicious food, singing and guaranteed great fun. The parade, as every year, will begin with the ceremonial cutting of the red ribbon, and then we will follow the platform, singing well-known party songs and "WHAT DA HECK IS DYNGUS DAY", "EVERYBODY'S POLISH ON DYNGUS", "WE LOVE DYNGUS DAY", IT'S DYNGUS DAY" and a new song "DYNGUS DANCE" where the choruses will be in Polish and English. Everyone will parade through the streets heading to McGolrick Park, which is located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York, where delicacies of Polish cuisine will be waiting for the participants.
Dyngus is our Polish tradition, let's give our children here in immigration the opportunity to cultivate this holiday and have fun, while inviting all New Yorkers to join us. This is why the Dyngus Parade in NYC was created, nowhere else but in the cradle of Polish immigrants in Greenpoint.
